A 10-year-old boy died while his grandmother was injured when they were hit by a car driven by a Delhi Police constable this evening, the police said.
The incident occurred when the constable, Ashok went to a fish market in the Mandawali area of east Delhi around 5.30.
As the constable was reversing his car, Gopal and his grandmother standing behind it were hit and sustained serious injuries, a police spokesperson said.
The constable rushed the victims to hospital where doctors declared the boy dead, his grandmother is recuperating, he said.
The spokesperson said that Ashok was off duty and arrested on alleged charges of causing death due to rash and negligent driving.
