Pipeline burst leads to snarls in East Delhi, water crisis likely

NEW DELHI:A stretch of Vikas Marg abutting the Laxmi Nagar Metro Station was flooded today due to a pipeline burst, causing hardship to locals and severe traffic congestion in the busy market area.

A stretch of Vikas Marg abutting the Laxmi Nagar Metro Station was flooded today due to a pipeline burst, causing hardship to locals and severe traffic congestion in the busy market area.

The incident was reported around 9 am, a PWD official said. Delhi Jal Board (DJB), in a statement, said it was repairing the leakage, which would affect water supply in East Delhi till tomorrow morning.

Supply would be affected in several areas of Central and South Delhi on July 26 and 27 as the agency would undertake plugging of another leakage near Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Van near Sarai Kale Khan, the DJB statement said.

The South Delhi areas that would be affected include Jal Vihar, Lajpat Nagar, Greater Kailash, Vasant Kunj, Ambedkar Nagar, Okhla, Panchsheel Park, Shahpur Jat, Kotla Mubarakpur, Sarita Vihar, Malviya Nagar, Chhatarpur and areas under the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Corporation.

The East Delhi areas that may be hit by a water crisis are Nirman Vihar, Preet Vihar, East Laxmi market, Defence Enclave, Laxmi Nagar, Shakarpur, Mayur Vihar Phase-I/II/III, Vinod Nagar, Mandawli, Trilokpuri, among others.

“Water tankers will be available at telephone numbers: 1916, 23527679, 23538495, 23513073, 1800117118 (Central Control Room), 29234746, 29234747 (Greater Kailash-I), 26473720 (Giri Nagar), 29819035 (Jal Sadan), 26137216 (Vasant Kunj), 29941824, 29941825 (Sarita Vihar), 22374834, 22374237 (Jagriti SPS), 22727812 (Mandawali water emergency), 22817228 (Yamuna Vihar)," the Delhi Jal Board added  in the statement.—PTI
