Police kids gear up for Olympic 2020

NEW DELHI:Sneha Prakash stepped up and challenged the male wrestlers to a bout and it took barely five minutes for a 14-year-old female wrestler from Sarvodya Vidyalya to defeat her male competitor of same weight category during the final selection for the five games includes shooting, wrestling, athletics, badminton and football for “Mission Olympics 2020” of the Police Family Welfare Society (PFWS).

Sneha Prakash stepped up and challenged the male wrestlers to a bout and it took barely five minutes for a 14-year-old female wrestler from Sarvodya Vidyalya to defeat her male competitor of same weight category during the final selection for the five games includes shooting, wrestling, athletics, badminton and football for “Mission Olympics 2020” of the Police Family Welfare Society (PFWS).

The PFWS has decided to train children of the Delhi police officers to promote and motivate them for the 2020 Olympics, according to a senior police officer.

The children have been undergoing training for the past two months.

Ankit Kumar (17), a sprinter, got selected for the National Games. He will be given special training to represent India in the 2020 Olympics. Ankit said, “I aimed to qualify for international events from the beginning and participating in the Olympics will make my dream come true. I will put in all my efforts to achieve my dream.”

Around 538 children were screened, out of which 136 have been shortlisted. The first phase of the programme began around 11 months ago. Initially, the players were screened and made aware of the Olympics Charter. They were also encouraged to dream big and game skills.

“This is the excellent initiative by the PWFS, as we have to aim higher and what less than Olympics 2020. All these students are very rich in talent and determined to prove themselves and I am sure they will do well in future,” said Amulya Patnaik, Delhi Police Commissioner.
