Sharpshooter, killer of public prosecutor arrested by AATS

The Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) team of South-East District of Delhi Police has arrested an interstate gangster Wazir Ahmed (36), member of notorious Mintoo Singh's gang of Gopalganj (Bihar), from where Ahmed hails, said police.

Ahmed alias Daddu Miya was wanted in a murder case of a former Public Prosecutor and prominent senior advocate Tripurari Sharan Sharma of Gopalganj in 2015, police said.

On May 18, information was gathered that an interstate sharpshooter Ahmed will come in Jamia Nagar to meet his acquaintance and will be carrying illegal weapon.

A trap was laid at Sailing Road near Jamia Nagar. At about 5.30 pm, one person was seen coming from Kalindi Kunj side. On seeing the police, he started running but was apprehended after a brief chase, said DCP Chinmoy Biswal (South East).

On his search, one loaded country-made pistol and five live cartridges were recovered, Biswal said.

In 2015, accused Daddu Miya met Mintoo Singh at Motihari Jail. They hatched a conspiracy to kill Sharma as Mintoo had previous enmity with the lawyer. On 30.08.2015, Daddu Miya along with his associate, shot Sharma dead in his chamber in broad daylight at Gopalganj.

Since then, he was on run and was declared Proclaimed Offender by the court. From Gopalgang, he went to his relative in Mumbai along with his family and started working as welder. His associate, Jai Prakash Singh and others were arrested in that case. Mintoo was killed in a gangwar in 2016. When Jai came out on bail in that murder case, he came to Mumbai to meet Miya and him that the Gopalganj police has got clues about him being in Mumbai. Miya then went to Gopalganj to drop his family and came to Delhi last week to revive his contacts and look for work.

Information about Miya's arrest has been transmitted to Gopalganj police, DCP added.
