In order to make transactions at AIIMS, New Delhi cashless, the Union Health Ministry on Monday launched a smart payment card. The patients and their caretakers can procure the card from the facilitation centres at the hospital and thereafter use it for payment at various counters.
The AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card aims to streamline payment processes for medical treatment, ensuring a hassle-free experience for patients.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya emphasised the significance of this initiative, highlighting its role in addressing the long-standing issue of patients from remote areas carrying cash to the hospital.
Referring to the smart payment card as ‘one AIIMS, one card’, the minister said it would enables swift fund transfers from anywhere in the country for urgent payment needs related to patients receiving treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi. The minister also announced plans to extend these services to all AIIMS facilities nationwide in the near future.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding, the implementation of the SBI-AIIMS New Delhi smart card system was formalised. The card is provided free of charge to all patients and does not entail any service fees. Upon admission, patients will receive the card, linked to their Unique Hospital Identification (UHID) number and Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
In case of loss, patients will receive a replacement card at no cost, with the balance transferred accordingly. The card remains valid for five years and offers flexible top-up options, including online modalities and credit/debit card transactions, accessible by any relative or friend of the patient.
