A low-floor DTC bus lost control and rammed into a group of public transport vehicles outside the Azadpur Metro Station in Northwest Delhi this afternoon, killing two persons and injuring several others, according to the police.
The driver of the bus lost his control over it when a tyre of the bus burst which is suspected to be the cause of the incident. The bus rammed into an auto and an e-rickshaw and killing Devender (40) and Harsh (15) and injured seven persons who are expected to survive, said a senior police officer.
The injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital. The police are awaiting a report on their condition. The bus driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot, said Milind Dumbere, DCP (Northwest).
The accident took place outside the Azadpur Metro Station where a few e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws were parked on the roadside. Locals rushed to the spot and rescued those trapped in the mangled vehicles. There were a few passengers in the bus. With anger brewing among locals and commuters at the spot, a police team was deployed to prevent breakdown of law and order.
According to the initial probe, the bus swerved towards the left, ramming two e-rickshaws and one auto. These three vehicles had some passengers in them at the time of the accident.
