NEW DELHI:The water treatment plants at Wazirabad and Chandrawal are likely to be shut for two tothree days due to a sudden rise in ammonia level in the Yamuna.

The water treatment plants at Wazirabad and Chandrawal are likely to be shut for two to three days due to a sudden rise in ammonia level in the Yamuna. 

This action may affect water supply in Inderlok, Shastri Nagar, Azad Market, Beriwala Bagh, Bara Hindu Rao, Tokriwalan, Pahari Dheeraj, Regarpura, New Rohtak Road, Manakpura, Bapa Nagar, Dev Nagar, Model Basti, Motia Khan, Jhandewalan Extention, Nai Walan, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chauk, Darya Ganj and adjoining areas, LNJP Hospital, MAMC, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Nanak Hospital, Minto Road, Civil Lines, Majnu ka Tilla and adjoining areas, Ajmeri Gate, Sita Ram Bazar, Ballimaran, Kucha Pandit, Chawri Bazar, Nai Sarak, Ram Lila Ground and adjoining areas, Mukund Pur, Burari, Adarsh Nagar, Jahangir Puri, Model Town, Kamla Nagar, Delhi University, Malka Gunj, GTB Nagar, Mukerji Nagar, Timar Pur, Wazirabad and Jagat Pur etc. 

A spokesperson of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) said the DJB had made arrangements for water tankers. In case of acute shortage, residents of these areas could contact the DJB office of their area for water tankers. 

Meanwhile, Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, who has been at loggerheads with the AAP government, has praised the DJB for tackling water crisis in the national Capital efficiently. 

In his letter to Keshav Chandra, CEO of the DJB, Jung said the work to tackle the water crisis was appreciable. 

The AAP government has also decided to prepare a backup plan for alternative sources of water so that residents don’t face such problem in the future.

The DJB has been directed by the government to prepare a plan so that the city has seven to 10 days water backup in case of any crisis.
