Melbourne, January 11

An Indian man has been allegedly attacked with a “kirpan” by a compatriot after an altercation at a gurdwara in New Zealand.

The police confirmed the scuffle at Otahuhu gurdwara in Auckland and said they had taken a man into custody after the Friday’s incident, the New Zealand Herald reported. Vicky Singh, who was praying at the gurdwara, said he heard two men shouting and rushed to the spot.

“I saw one of them injured, his face had slash wounds and blood was dripping down. Someone said the other man had used a knife to attack this man,” he said.

A “kirpan” is believed to have been used in the confrontation, the report said. Both men arrived from India four months ago, and the victim was a prayer leader. — PTI
