100 USOL students get degrees

CHANDIGARH: Degrees were conferred upon 100 students of University School of Open Learning (USOL) and around 20 prizes were awarded to students during the 4th convocation of USOL and 44th prize-giving function held here today.

Chandigarh, March 30

Degrees were conferred upon 100 students of University School of Open Learning (USOL) and around 20 prizes were awarded to students during the 4th convocation of USOL and 44th prize-giving function held here today.

Prof Nuruddin Farah, an alumnus of Panjab University and a distinguished author from Somalia, graced the occasion for the convocation address.

Delivering his address, Professor Farah, a strong political voice who advocates for women’s rights in Somalia, told students to shape their lives in academic institutions, excel in their pursuits to become responsible citizens by doing good for society.

Prof Farah also asked the students to know and identify their potentials, chart their routes to success and exploit their classroom situations in such ways as when they leave their alma mater, they are prepared to meet demands and challenges of life and society.

Prof Arun Kumar Grover, Vice-Chancellor Panjab University, expressed his happiness by hosting Professor Farah at the university and expressed his resolve to publish the outstanding convocation address given by him and wished him good luck for the Nobel Prize in literature.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Grover called distance education in the 21st Century as a lifeline, a road for sustenance to the university and a premier medium for the massification of higher education. Prof Yojna Rawat, Chairperson, USOL, introduced the chief guest and highlighted achievements of the department by presenting its annual report.
