Patiala: Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal of Khalsa College, Patiala, and Director (Education), Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Amritsar, released a book titled, ‘Data Mining and Data Warehouse’. The book has been written by Prof Inderbir Kaur Sandhu. Dr Ubha said the book dealt with a detailed study of data mining and data warehouse, which would be very beneficial for students of computer and business studies, who were interested in research. He motivated Prof Inderbir Kaur to write such books in future also. Dr Ravinderjit Singh, Controller (Examination); Prof Sukhmeen Kaur, head of the Computer Science Department; Prof Jatinder Kaur, Prof Gurpal Singh; Dr Jagjit Singh, head of the Department of Music Vocal; Prof Sandeep Kaur; president of college teaching union, and other faculty members were also present on this occasion. 

World Theatre Day 

The Department of Theatre and Television, Punjabi University, Patiala, celebrated World Theatre Day here on Monday. In the morning session, Assistant Professor Namrata Sharma read out the message for the day. After that, Dr Gurnam Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs, Punjabi University, shared his views about World Theatre Day. Following his speech, Davinder Daman read out his play, “Banda Bahadur”. Young playwright Dr. Gurpreet Singh Rattol joined him in the reading. After the reading session the students asked questions related to this play as well as other plays of the playwright in a one hour long interactive session. In the evening session, Khalsa College, Amritsar, staged a play, “Firdaus, based on the Kashmir problem at Kala Bhawan in Punjabi University. The play was staged in the zonal and inter-zonal youth festival of Guru Nanak Dev University. After that it was developed into a full length play. This play presented the Kashmir problem. Prof Davinder Singh and Director Emanuel Singh deserve applause for this work. On this occasion, head of the department Dr. Jaspal Kaur Deol said in future, the department would come up with multifaceted activities on World Theatre Day. 

Alumni meet

An alumni meet was held at Government Senior School, Civil Lines, Patiala, in which around 260 old Students from the 1968 to 1994 batches participated. First, they assembled on school premises to refresh their memories. The school authorities welcomed the old students and offered a cup of tea. Later, dinner was organised at a private resort where a lamp was lit by old teachers and students. Around 15 retired teachers were honoured. The oldest peon, Kharak Singh, was invited  to sound the bell. Later, he was honoured, along with retired pharmacist Dr Kamaljit Singh Khanna. — TNS
