Chandigarh: This year IT companies are missing from placement drives of the University of Business School (UBS), Panjab University. Of the total 100 students, 97 have been placed with a number of renowned companies. Religare Finvest has offered the highest package of 15 lakh per annum to three students. The average package offered to the students is 7.59 lakh per annum. As per the data, the highest package last year was Rs 21 lakh per annum. Suresh K Chadha, chairman, UBS, said: “The slump in the IT is one of the prime reasons for low turnout of the companies this year.” Records of the department revealed that in 2015, there was a steep hike of 25 to 30 per cent in the package offered to the students by the top companies during placement drives.

Comenzar Stuprendre-2017

‘Comenzar Stuprendre-2017’, a fiesta projecting entrepreneurial ventures of students of BCom and MCom, was organised by the Department of Commerce, PGGCG-42. The students showcased their creativity, innovation and business instincts through the event. It proved to be a learning experience where the students enjoyed and tapped their feet to the live ‘Musical Zombies’ Band performance. Prof Binu Dogra, principal of the college, inaugurated the event. Dr Kamlesh Bajaj, HoD, commerce department, encouraged the students. The competitive spirit among the participants was boosted by rewarding them with titles such as ‘Stuprendre of the year’ (for the best entrepreneur), ‘Showstopper’ (for the best display of the stall), ‘Max Clicks’ (for the maximum number of deals clicked), ‘Big Shot’ (for the maximum profit earned from the stall), ‘Innovative Strupendre’ (to encourage creative instincts) and ‘Prometheus 2017’ (for being a social entrepreneur.

IT fest at SGGSC-26

The Postgraduate Department of Computer Science, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College (SGGSC), Sector 26, Chandigarh, organised a one-day inter-college IT fest, ‘TECHBEATS 2K17’. The college has completed 50 years and the IT fest was a part of the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations. Dr HK Sardana, Chief Scientist, CSIR-CSIO, who was the chief guest, talked about Internet and IoT (Internet of Things) and how artificial intelligence has made the computer systems powerful. Various colleges from the tricity participated in technical events such as software development, website development, debugging, reverse gear, IT quiz, debate, photoshop mania, AD-MAD show, techoli, e-waste modelling and group dance. — TNS
