CHANDIGARH: Panjab University has slashed expenditure by more than Rs 15 crore for 2016-17 due to a delay in the release of grant by the Union Government.

Panjab University has slashed expenditure by more than Rs 15 crore for 2016-17 due to a delay in the release of grant by the Union Government.

As per the revised budget report, the authorities have proposed an expenditure of Rs 502.11 crore against Rs 517.33 crore proposed earlier.

As per the revised estimates, which will be tabled before the Board of Finance on August 1, the university has cut its expenditure on its employees by Rs 18 crore. In the earlier report, Rs 430.40 crore was to be spent on the salary, pension and other benefits to the employees, which has been brought down to Rs 412.72 crore.

Meanwhile, the varsity has increased expenditure for other heads by Rs 3 crore, taking the total spending from Rs 86 crore to Rs 89 crore.

The university is expecting to earn Rs 249.51 crore, which is Rs 39 crore more than the earlier estimate of Rs 210.61 crore, due to a hike in the examination fee from this academic session. ever, as per the revised estimates, Panjab University will face a deficit of Rs 54 crore.
