The Panjab University Syndicate constituted a sub-committee to review the proposal of upper age limit of 30 years for admissions to LLB three-year course from 2017-18 academic session.

The Syndicate members discussed the issue which was tabled in the meeting today. As per the Clause 28 of the Legal Education Rules 2008, the upper age limit for admissions to the LLB three-year course was limited to 30 years, with the right of the university to give concession of five further years to the applicants under the SC, ST or any other backward community. The committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Justice Harbans Lal, along with two other members.

Another issue which was approved today in the meeting was that the student seeking admission in the university under the category of rural students cannot do so if he/she has completed Class X and Class XII from a school that falls under the cantonment area.

Besides this, the Syndicate gave a final nod to the proposal that from the next academic session, the History Department will hold entrance test for admission in MA.

It was also approved that students who seek special permission to attend the classes on the campus while taking regular admission in the regional centre or college affiliated to the university would have to shell out a hefty amount as extra fee to the university.

As per the policy from this session, a student studying in the college will have to pay Rs 1 lakh in case of taking special permission to attend classes on the campus and a student of the regional centre have to pay Rs 20,000 per semester to the university.
