A spokesman for Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, said 20 students from the university had got confirmation to participate in a global campaign/competition launched by Facebook.

The campaign has been launched with an objective to build a community focused on shared values that counters hate speech and extremism.

The global university initiative is sponsored by Facebook and EdVenture Partners, United States, under ‘Facebook Global Digital Challenge Worldwide Programme’.

“The BGSBU is among the 175 universities from various countries and one of the 18 universities from the country to get confirmation to participate in the international competition,” said the BGSBU spokesman.

He further said the BGSBU team had selected ‘Peace, Progress & Prosperity Campaign’ (P2P) as its theme and its slogan was ‘No to Violence’.

On Saturday, Prof Javed Musarrat, Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, launched the P2P campaign at the university in the presence of the participating students and faculty members.

“Through the programme, the team will interact with the youth of the state to bring out a comprehensive framework on peace, progress and prosperity and then submit their work to the organisers for final assessment,” said the university spokesman.

The Vice Chancellor and Dean, School of Management Studies, Prof Naseem Ahmad released white doves, a symbol of peace, to mark the start of the P2P campaign.

Prof Musarrat congratulated Prof Naseem Ahmed and the faculty coordinator, Danish Iqbal Raina, along with the team for securing confirmation in the international competition.

“Spreading the message of peace, progress and prosperity is the need of the hour for the whole world in general and J&K state in particular. No society or country can develop if it is engaged in violence and no religion in this world teaches us to hate each other or indulge in violence. Killing one single man is equal to killing the whole humanity,” said the VC.
