Ludhiana: Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women observed “Swachhata Diwas” under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Principal, Dr Parveen Kaur Chawla, addressed the students. She sensitised them on the importance of cleanliness in their daily activities. The day was marked by different competitions held on the topic, ‘Swachhata Diwas’. Various committees of volunteers were set up during the campaign and were given the responsibility to clean various parts of the college. The principal felicitated the participants of the various competitions.

Guest lecture

A guest lecture for career counselling on topics “Bringing talent closer to opportunities in the insurance sector”, “Job opportunities in the insurance sector” was organised by Postgraduate Department of Commerce and Management at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. The Principal, Dr Swaranjeet Singh Deol, welcomed the chief guests and expressed his views on employment opportunities in the insurance sector. Dr Varinder Kaur Thind, Director, Development, appreciated the initiative of the department.

International Week of Science and Technology celebrated

The physics society of the Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, organised an exhibition on the occasion of International Week of Science and Technology with the objective of inculcating scientific temper in students. The participants put up an array of exhibits on this occasion. Students expressed their views on various topics such as green energy usage, technology and environment . The projects on hydraulics, infrared imaging, theft-control system, quake detector and alarm evoked a lot of interest among visitors.

Children’s Day

The Punjab Institute of Management and Technology (PIMT), Mandi Gobindgarh, celebrated Children’s Day with great fervor on the PIMT campus. The campus was decorated with colourful balloons. The students presented a vibrant cultural programme during which they also sung English and Hindi numbers. Dr Manisha Gupta, Director, faculty and the staff members also joined in the celebrations. The programme began with tributes to Chacha Nehru. Various activities and events were organised. These included an informative play and songs. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Manisha Gupta.

Dhanvantri Jayanti celebrated

The faculty of Ayurveda and research at Desh Bhagat University celebrated Dhanvantri Jayanti with fervour. A special function was organised in which a large number of students and staff members participated. Presiding over the programme, Pro-Chancellor of Desh Bhagat UniversityTajinder Kaur said Lord Dhanvantri is progenitor of Ayurveda and an epitome of heath. Ayurveda is a very old and unique health system initiated by our saints and sages and is very useful to keep ourselves healthy and fit without any side effects, she added.

Poster competition

The Fine Arts Department of the Government College for Girls organised a poster-making contest under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Twentytwo students participated in this programme enthusiastically. They made interesting posters with the message of celebrating cleanliness for a healthy life. — TNS
