The convocation of SCD Government College will be held soon and Education Minister Aruna Chaudhary is expected to be the chief guest on the occassion.

College professors have welcomed the statement made by Chaudhary that the posts of DPI (colleges and schools) be given back to the cadre (department), instead of appointing PCS/IAS officers on the posts.

One of the teachers at the college appreciated the statement made recently by Chaudhary in which she has wished to appoint DPIs from the teaching faculty only. The earlier SAD-BJP government had reviewed the posts of the PCS officials and it was decided to put 15 such officials as the heads of various departments, including the Education Department.

“It has been a long-pending demand of teachers that the department heads (DPIs) should be retired principals or professors. But in the past several years, PCS/IAS officials have been appointed as the DPIs, causing resentment among the teaching faculty. If the Education Minister is serious on the issue, then the review of the posts of PCS should be done once again. Even the Service Rules of Punjab Education 1976 say that the department head should be from the teaching faculty,” lamented a teacher.

Another teacher said: “The bureaucrats cannot properly understand the working of the Teaching Department. They just pass the orders without going into the depth of an issue. When principals/retired professors are well aware and familiar with the department, they should be given a chance to serve as the heads. They will prove to be better administrators. If things go well, we intend to discuss the important issue with the Education Minister when she comes here,” said another teacher.
