Tension gripped the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) here late this afternoon when students of the Rajiv Gandhi Govt Engineering College, Nagrota Bagwan, lodged a protest against the NIFT students who had allegedly assaulted some students of the engineering college earlier today.
The students of the engineering college gathered at the gates of NIFT and closed it in protest against the assault on their fellow students. They raised slogans against the NIFT and demanded legal action against its students.
The engineering students said there was a two-day fest in the NIFT in which they had also participated. They were harassed during the event which they tolerated.
However, when three students of their college collected their trophies from the host college today, they were attacked by NIFT students who snatched the keys of their car and assaulted them. Meanwhile, the police picked up three students of NIFT in this regard.
Later, the faculty of Rajiv Gandhi Govt Engineering College reached the spot and made the protesting students leave. Pratima Sarkar, director of Students Development Activity Council of NIFT, said the incident that took place outside the NIFT campus and the police was investigating the case.
Kangra Station House Officer (SHO) Bhadur Singh, who was on the spot, said both the parties had mutually compromised so no case was registered and no arrests had been made.
