To reduce the financial burden of students due to purchasing books of their curriculum annually, the Panjab University Department of Statistics has developed a book bank in the department library.
The department charges Rs 500 from each student annually for the maintenance of the book bank and all text books required for their course are issued to them from library.
To sustain the book bank, the department allocates the funds which are disbursed by the university. The book bank set up in the departmental library has multiple copies of the curriculum text books for the students.
Besides, there are more than 4,000 books which can be issued only by the department students and scholars. Outsiders can access these books in library only. The library is manually operated for book issue and return. To facilitate the students, it is fully air conditioned.
Kanchan K Jain from the department said there were computers in the library to check out the library catalogue and automation system for the issue and return was in process. She said to strengthen the book bank, text-book copies are added every year.
