Mohali, May 23
Impressed with the cleaning system and its digital monitoring in Mohali, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is contemplating handing over the job to a private player.
City Mayor Arun Sood has asked the private company responsible for the manual and mechanised sweeping in Mohali to make a presentation for the cleaning of some areas in Chandigarh.
Sood, accompanied by Chandigarh Deputy Mayor Hardip Singh and others, today visited the Mohali Municipal Corporation’s office in Sector 68 to see the working of the sweeping system and the digital check on safai sewaks through a mobile app and control room.
“The system in Mohali is better than ours,” said Sood after meeting Mohali Municipal Commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta. Sood added that he had asked officials of the company to make a presentation for the cleaning of city areas.
Differences between MC Commissioner and Deputy Mayor resurface
Differences between Mohali Municipal Commissioner Gupta and Deputy Mayor Manjit Singh Sethi surfaced again when the latter termed the cleaning system in the town a “failure” in front of the Chandigarh Mayor and his team.
“They cleaned the town just for your visit. Otherwise, heaps of garbage can be seen at several places. Come along with me, I can show you heaps of garbage at several points,” said Sethi to Mayor Arun Sood and his team when they went to meet Sethi in his office.
Notably, Sethi did not attend the meeting of Gupta and Acting Mayor Rishabh Jain with Sood and his team.
“I was not invited for the meeting by Gupta,” said Sethi.
However, Gupta said they (the Mohali MC) were playing host to the UT team. “It was our moral duty to attend to them. I didn’t invite anybody for it,” said Gupta.
