Chandigarh, April 26

As the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has failed to find new agency to carry out sterilisation programme, the MC has decided to extend the contract of the existing NGO for three more months.

The post facto approval is coming up in MC House meeting on April 28. The NGO will now carry out work till June 30 and till the time the MC will finalise a new firm or NGO.

In the past two years (April 2015 to March 2017), the Municipal Corporation has sterilised 8,600 stray dogs. The civic body had given the responsibility of carrying out sterilisation of stray dogs to Udgir-based NGO, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, two years ago. The agency was sterilising 450 dogs in a month, which was reduced to 200 dogs in a month recently.

The MC has already floated a fresh tender to hire a new agency for carrying out the work, but the new agency is yet to be finalised.
