As many as 106 bicycles were seized during a raid by a flying squad of the Election Commission at a ‘dharamshala’ in Sunam on Tuesday. On Monday too, 259 bicycles were seized from the house of Jagtar Singh at Dehlan Sihan village near Lehragaga.
The Sunam administration had received a complaint that a large number of bicycles had been stored in the dharamshala for distribution among labourers to lure them for votes in the elections.
Rajdeep Singh Brar, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Sunam, said this evening that it had come to their notice that the bicycles belonged to the Labour Department, so they had issued a notice to the Labour Department to submit a reply within 24 hours. Thereafter, action would be taken accordingly, he added.
