A day to cherish

Amarjot Kaur

Puraani jeans, aur guitar, muhalle ki woh chatt aur mere yaar...rings a bell? Does it take you down the memory lane to college days? Well, the only thing that remains permanent in this otherwise transitory life are the memories and no matter where you are or who you are, you will always pull out the best memories from those splendid ‘college days’, when there was no boss to haul you up, and the only number on the speed dial was that of your best friend! At the Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh, students decked up in their best attire for the freshers’ party under the Campus Buzz, an initiative by The Tribune Life+Style. And while they let their hair down at the party, we knew that this day will go down as one of the most significant days in their diaries.

So, while we give you a glimpse into this ice-breaking session with the juniors and seniors over a series of western dance and bhangra performances, we will word the voices of the crowd at the venue—“woohooo...once more.” Now, multiply that with hundred and what do you get? A gala event! Packed with a powerhouse of talent, the party featured solo singing performances, where Baljinder Kaur of BCA Ist year sang a self-composed Punjabi song, while Bhangra queens and Ankhili Jattiyan danced to the tunes of Punjabi songs. Now that we have had enough of Punjabi tadka, it’s time to fuse it with the western flavour with Kamli Girls of BCA IInd year, who danced to the tunes of Kamli Kamli. The students of BCA IInd year also performed a skit at the event.

The juniors weren’t disappointing at all and that we got to know in their modelling round! While Sonika Rathore was conferred with the title of Miss Graduation, Rubina Malik received the title of Miss Beautiful smile and Navjot Kaur of PGDCA won the title of Miss Confident. Also, Priyanka received the title for the best hairstyle. “I anyway wanted to try for modelling and this seems to be a good start,” says Priyanka, who was elated at winning the title. However, Anmolpreet, who won the award for Miss Post Graduation, shares, “Such events make us confident and prepare us for the world outside our college. And also lets us enjoy the time that we spent here. It gives me a boost to be awarded this title,” she shares.

“I am a Punjaban and think the reason why I won this title is because I spoke in Punjabi, which clicked with the judges and the audience. I feel really nice and confident. This is an important day in my life,” Navjot, the Miss Confident signs off.
