Hair that make heads turn

In many ways, fashion could be a social obligation, we all need suggestions, references, advice and on the final front — a stylist. Nitin Manchanda, technical head of Schwarzkopf Professional, India, who is a professionally trained hairdresser from Pivot Point School, Delhi, has been in the industry for 16 years now. He has styled for Femina Miss India 2009, Bangalore Fashion Week, Schwarzkopf Essential Look Shows, and Indola’s Street Style Collection, sharing the stage with International stylists Like Antony Whitekar, Rick Lee, Dieter Kaiser and Millecent Howe. And on a short trip to Chandigarh for the inauguration of Glamazone Unisex Beauty salon, Sector 32, he doles out hair trends and styles for the fast approaching spring-summer season.

Cut it out

Nitin shares that there are as many as three styles that are doing rounds this season. “The Hippie glam look, Monomodes and Rock Chic are the trends that are catching up in the coming season,” shares Nitin. He informs that the Hippie glam look is characterised by thick hair volume, and are quite effortless and messy; while we wonder why would one go to a parlour to get messy hair!

Meanwhile, monomode is a disconnecting haircut with uniform length and no layers. However, the Rock Chic hairdo, as the name suggests, is taken from the rock and metal influences, where the length of the hair goes shorter, with more layers and textures.

Suit yourself

n If you are a college-going girl, Nitin suggests that an over-cut technique gives a funky and glamorous look. “In this cut, we usually retain a long length of hair and give more texture, layers and volume on the crown area. It’s quite a punk hairdo and allows one to follow various styles.”

n For professionals, Nitin suggests square layers and forward graduation. “In this hair-cut, the length of hair is kept till the mid-back. It’s a very soft and subtle haircut, which allows a lot of experimentation. Also, it looks neat.”

n If you are a man, you may feel there are lesser options, but Nitin claims that hair can change the way you look. “So, this season, the undercut will remain in vogue with lesser hair on either side above the ears, growing more in volume on the crown and centre area.”

Colour wheel

Nitin shares that reds and mahogany will rule the trend-o-meter this season. “The Balayage technique is really in and instead of streaks, highlights are catching up. Also, the auburn colour is a very safe option for all skin types,” he adds. We know Holi is a little while away, but one shouldn’t let go of an option to play with colours, isn’t it?
