“If winter comes, can spring be far behind”, penned the great poet P.B. Shelley. And after summer, comes the monsoon season— heralding newer fashions, trends and different hair styles to gel with it.

Many of us find it hard to look presentable during the hot and humid season. So, if the thought of exposing your hair to the nasty elements makes you cringe, we’ve got you covered. Here are some trending styles tailor-made for the monsoon season that would work for you whether you are going to college, university, office, or rather, for every occasion.

Just mess around

Devika Tyagi, lead make-up artist, hairstylist and owner, Makeuport, suggests a variety of hairdos to keep the quintessential monsoon hair woes at bay.

“From braids, buns, textured hairstyles to curls, there is a lot you can do with your hair in the monsoon season. When it comes to make-up, thick brows, wet lids, glitter lids and nude look create wonders!” Tyagi sums up.

Rachit Malhotra, celebrity hairstylist and creative director, Femina Plus, lists out some hep hairstyles which are ruling the roost this season, “You can never go wrong with messy hairdos during monsoons. Fishbraids, catwalk ponytails, low-slung ponytails swept to a side, and tousled buns are really in.”

He touches upon the nuances of the monsoon hairstyles, “The catwalk ponytail is a Deepika Padukone-inspired look. It basically involves tying your hair up in a neat high ponytail with a bounce. While tousled buns, that is, messy buns, give one a chic look.”

Braided look

Indu Thakur, currently pursuing LLB. from University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, swears by messy braids and buns for the season. She lists out some of her ever-favourite monsoon hairdos, “As I have long hair, I prefer buns and add a messy zing to them for an edgy look. I also love wearing my hair in messy braids.”

Whoever said braids are plain and simplistic was seriously mistaken, for Thakur experiments to her fullest with her braided look. To spare your locks the moist and unruly texture which comes with the monsoon season, she suggests, “There are a couple of hairdos you can try. While fishtail braids and French braids never run out of style, you can make a braid and just roll it up into a messy bun or a high ponytail.”

Wispy ponytails

Actress Saanvi Dhiman envisions monsoon season as a harbinger of dull and frizzy hair. To maintain the luster of her tresses and to keep the damage under check, Saanvi wears her tresses in a wispy ponytail. She notes, “The thought of strands sticking to the back of your neck is enough to make you opt for a stylish high ponytail when heading out with friends during the day time. Not only does it look elegant, it also keeps your hair in place.”

Bun it up

For Aakanksha Gautam, who is gearing up to pursue MBA from Australia, monsoon brings with it an opportunity to sport new hair styles. “But remember, it is also that time of the year when you need to take special care to maintain your lustrous crop of hair,” she observes.

Gautam lists out her monsoon-friendly hairdo mantras, “I prefer keeping my hair tied up in a tight bun. I also like wearing my hair in rope and fishtail braid.”
