Jasmine Singh
He has drafted a new regime for singers, Punjabi singers to be precise. Dressed immaculately, nowhere near to his casual stage name, Mickey Singh launches his debut solo track Ho Gaya Pyar released by Speed Records.
He has a heavy accent, and it has not been picked during any of his stage shows. Harmanjit Singh, as his parents christened him, moved from Hoshiarpur to USA when he was 13. Standing with his brother DJ Ice, Mickey, as the industry knows him, shares the story so far. “When I moved to USA Punjabi MC’s Mundeyan Ton Bach Key Rahi was ruling the charts. This inspired me to take up music in a big way. I got my sound engineering and computer science clearance and moved to the understanding of music,” adds the singer, who likes to experiment and amalgamate. “Being a Punjabi, I like music. And my music has a lot of Western influences as well,” Mickey says. It is this influence that shows in his single debut track as well.
Mickey takes it a step further with music production. “I have produced the music for Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming track Ishq Hazir Hai and another promo track for Jimmy Shergill’s next.”
Mickey would probably look out for Bollywood as his big score. “My music has a strong Bollywood influence already,” he adds introducing his brother who has rapped for him in the track. “All in the family,” they laugh.
