Anupreet Sidhu is only too sparing, especially when it comes to the idea of sustainable fashion. “Sustainable fashion is not my style,” says the 25-year-old fashion student at INIFD, who is all set to showcase her collection at the up and coming Lakme Fashion Week, in Mumbai. “I was selected by a panel of designers like Manish Malhotra, Rohit Bal and Masaba Gupta,” says Anupreet, who was selected for the fashion week under the Gen Next programme in collaboration with INIFD and Lakme Fashion Week.

A fashion blogger, Anupreet touts her entry at the fashion week as an accomplishment of sorts, while she also elaborates on the subject that many have taken a liking to and has inspired her collection too—Starry night over the Rhone, by Vincent Van Gogh. “Van Gogh’s Starry night over the Rhone has a particularly contrasting tone to my understanding; while the night sky makes for a rather gloomy composition, the stars just light it up, adding a flavour of light and festivity to the frame. That’s quite evident in my designs too,” says Anupreet.

Though Anupreet experiments with fabrics like linen, genuine leather, and even net, in colours that are variants of blue, black and grey, she injects a play of light and refection in her collection by adding laser-cut stainless steel. “Well, I design the garment first on Coral, and I managed to get the stainless steel bit at Phase-2, Mohali. Later, I applied the stainless steel designs with screws and studs on the fabric,” she shares. Well, if you think that’s a task, the next confession by Anupreet will leave you impressed, if not jaw-dropped. “I like stitching, actually. I can stitch a suit in three hours,” she smiles.

Anupreet opines that while most people have a different idea of fashion, their ideology and business perspective about it may differ. “As far as ideology goes, my designs are usually simple with a futuristic twist. Also, I don’t compromise on the quality, so most garments that I make are interchangeable, which means that they can be worn a multiple number of times with different tops or pants,” she signs off.

The Lakme Fashion Week is slated to begin on August 24, 2016, in Mumbai.
