From a bhangra on the Gangnam Style to a selfie on the stage, who can match the excitement of youth and the energy of college life? Freshers’ party for the diploma wing students of Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET) had all it takes to rock. From a leading English daily (read The Tribune’s Lifestyle) to an automobile giant for a sponsor.

Let’s gets started. There’s enough of song and dance, some skills and skits to keep things going. A thought-provoking mime on the ubiquity of cell-phones follows. How dangerously indispensable the modern means of communication have become, accompanying us to places of worship, a gathering during cremation, even doctors in operation theatres!

It was heart-warming to see students of technology pay attention to the flipside of technology; while Mr Fresher went to Himanshu, Ms Fresher to Ashmeet. Jatin was declared Mr Handsome and Shiny, Ms Beautiful. Baljinder was declared Mr Attitude and Himanshi Ms Attitude. Wait for the Mr & Ms CCET, which went to Vansh and Roop, respectively.

It’s hard to get back to studies or even classes after revelry, even before the students can pester Principal RK Kapoor, for a holiday, he takes to the stage. There is a split second’s silence; after all it is the principal speaking. Who is gracious and a sport enough to keep his promise and grant two day holiday to students! Ruckus, revelry, some more ruckus and a huge round of applause follow! Always the last but never the least, the afternoon is sealed with the customary bhangra performance. Instead of the colourful troupe we are accustomed to seeing, the boys are dressed in black and white kurta pyjama. The eight-minute comprised songs well chosen and steps visually appealing. Thereon the party is open, join in. After all, the grand college life has just begun and from here, life is a party; partially intervened by academics. Welcome newcomers!
