Haryana is set to replicate Tamil Nadu’s “Amma Canteen” concept with Rs 5 breakfast and Rs 10 meal.
The modalities for the launch of the scheme under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana were discussed at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Manonar Lal Khattar here today. It was decided to offer subsidised food three times a day at the meeting that was attended by Labour Minister Nayab Singh, Chief Secretary DS Dhesi, Additional Chief Secretary (Labour Department) Vijai Vardhan and Labour Commissioner Pankaj Aggarwal.
Khattar said the officials had been asked to finalise the scheme within a month. “Similar schemes run in other states will be studied to arrive at the best possible option to provide affordable food to the poor, especially labourers,” he said.

Sources said the project would be implemented in phases across the state after studying its feasibility.
Last month, the government launched the scheme to offer subsidised dinner packets for Rs 10. However, the new scheme would cover breakfast and lunch as well.
