Demanding a change in the state leadership, 10 of the 17 Congress legislators today threatened to resign if their demand was not heeded by the high command.

The MLAs also boycotted the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting called by Kiran Choudhry ahead of the Budget session of the Haryana Vidhan sabha which began here today, and held a parallel meeting to deliberate on the issues to be raised in the House.

Amidst a widening split in the party divided between state unit chief AshokTanwar Choudhry team and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda faction, the legislators maintained that the boycott of the CLP meeting was their way of protesting against the police case lodged by Tanwar against Hooda.

“We have already informed the top party brass that it is no longer possible for us to attend the meetings chaired by Tanwar. The state leadership must change since environment has been vitiated and is no longer conducive for any talks,” Sharma said.

Though the MLAs have repeatedly raised a banner of revolt against the Tanwar-Choudhry duo, MLA Jai Tirath Dahiya went ahead and demanded Tanwar and Choudhry’s removal, adding that “If the high command fails to act, all MLAs will submit their resignations to the Congress President. The case registered against the former CM and others in his family is false and fabricated. ”

MLA Anand Singh Dangi said that Tanwar’s leadership was not acceptable and a change of guard is essential to strengthen the party. “A false FIR under the SC/ST Act has been registered against Hooda and his family members at Tanwar’s instance . We were all present at the spot and are ready to join investigation to depose that the allegations are false, especially since it was nothing more than a workers’ scuffle. There is no likelihood of a compromise especially when the case has been registered at Tanwar’s behest against a former CM,” Sharma stated.

Choosing to keep mum on the issues they have with Choudhry, the MLAs stated that the party high command was aware of their grievances. Though the MLAs owing allegiance to Hooda have boycotted meetings chaired by Tanwar and Choudhry in the past also, it is for the first time that they have boycotted the CLP meeting and held a parallel one which was attended by 13 MLAs.

“We met before the session at Hooda’s residence and discussed our strategy in the House as also the issues that we need to rake up in public interest. An adjournment motion has been drafted on the change of affidavit in the Supreme Court filed by the BJP government with regard to the reservation to Jats. We support their cause if they protest peacefully. The government is dragging its feet on fulfilling its promises to protesters to divide society along caste lines,” former Speaker and MLA Raghuvir Singh Kadian said.

The party will raise in the House the Gwal Pahari land release “scam”, the purchase of electricity meters from a “barred” company, benefits accruing from metro- realignment, among others. CLP leader Kiran Choudhry was not available for comment.

While MLAs Randeep Singh Surjewala, Kuldeep Bishnoi and Renuka Bishnoi did not come for the opening day of the session, Hooda did not attend the press conference held at his residence while Karan Dalal, also from the Hooda camp, could not make it.
