The police have arrested two persons, one of them a parole jumper, on the charge of smuggling pistols from Uttar Pradesh. Two country-made pistols and a car, which was stolen from Delhi, were seized from them.
The accused have been identified as Manish of Bhodwal Majri village in Panipat district and Naresh, alias Nitin, of Delhi, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Surinder Singh Bhoria.
Manish was a member of Dagar gang. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case. In November last year, he had jumped parole. A case was registered against him in this connection at Samalkha police station.
On a tip-off that some persons were smuggling weapons from UP, an anti-snatching team of the police led by ASI Parveen Kumar installed nakas on the Meerut road. Manish and Naresh were arrested with illegal pistols.
They had reportedly confessed to have smuggled pistols for murdering a man of Bhodwal Majri village, the SP said.
