Rohtak, July 1

About 2 million extra units of electricity were consumed in areas under the jurisdiction of the Rohtak operation circle of the UHBVN during the two-day of strike by power corporations’ employees.

It happened as not only urban consumers, but also rural consumers, who get supply for about 12 hours a day, got 24-hour supply on June 29 and 30.

Sources said power was supplied round the clock during the strike to prevent any attempt on the part of striking employees to sabotage the power supply operations.

“There is a possibility of sabotage only during power cuts. To pre-empt any such attempt, the authorities decided to supply round-the-clock electricity,” they said.

UHBVN Superintending Engineer (Operation) Gian Chand confirmed that the power consumption increased by nearly 10 lakh units on each of the two days during which the employees were on strike.

On the sacking of contractual employees who had participated in the strike, the SE said the representatives of the employees’ associations were slated to meet the state authorities tomorrow and a final call on the matter would be taken after the meeting.
