Karnal, February 5

The fluctuation in temperature has resulted in the spread of yellow rust.

Seven new cases of yellow rust were detected in the state yesterday, four from Yamunanagar, two from Ambala and one from Karnal districts. Scientists at the Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley (IIWBR) have collected samples for analysis at a lab in Shimla.

Principal Scientist MS Saharan said seven fresh cases were reported in the state yesterday but there was no cause for panic as these were in patches. Of these cases, three had been detected in Bakana village and one in Rattangarh village of Yamunanagar, one in Kalsora village of Karnal, one case each in Hamidpur and Bibipur villages of Ambala, he said.

Dr RK Gupta, Director, IIWBR, said if any symptoms of yellow rust were noticed, the farmers should spray the recommended fungicide, including 0.1 per cent solution of propiconazole 25 EC (tilt) or tiebuconazole 250 EC (folicur) or triademephon 25 WP (Bayleton) under a clear sky..
