Demonetisation seems to have come to the rescue of the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad (MCF). Facing acute financial crunch, the civic body has been able to collect tax dues of around Rs 3.5 crore in the past two days.
An MCF spokesperson said after the state government issued a notification on Thursday night that residents were allowed to deposit old currency notes, several defaulters turned up at the MC office to deposit charges that had been pending for several months.
While the collection on Friday was Rs 3 crore, it dived to just Rs 50 lakh by 5 pm on Saturday, as a revised notification by the government on Friday night added some riders for the payment.
A condition that prohibited residents from using old currency to pay tax in advance adversely affected the collections today. A rider in the fresh notification disallowed industries to pay tax using old currency notes.
