A meeting between Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu and a delegation of the All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) today seems to have paved the way for the third round of discussions to end the deadlock over the Jat agitation.

Sources said a delegation led by AIJASS leader Rambhagat Malik met the minister at the local rest house. It was decided that the AIJASS national committee would hold further talks with the minister soon.

Confirming the development, the samiti leader said the venue and time of the meeting was yet to be finalised. The AIJASS called on Capt Abhimanyu after his support to the samiti’s demand for a fresh investigation into all incidents of violence during the Jat agitation last year.

He told mediapersons after the meeting that he supported the demand for a probe into the entire sequence of events, including the clash between two groups of lawyers and police action on students at the college hostel in Rohtak.

“An agitation over the demand to cover up facts is unjustified. The purpose of an agitation should be to bring out the truth. I am happy that samiti leaders have raised a fresh demand for a probe into all incidents. I back these demands,” Capt Abhimanyu said.

He supported the demand in the Lok Sabha by Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala for an inquiry into the 31 deaths and burning of a Congress MLA’s house in Jhajjar.

He asked why former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had not been favouring an investigation into the incidents.
