After 2-yr delay, PM to inaugurate Mundka-Bahadurgarh Metro today

Bahadurgarh (Jhajjar), June 23

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the over 11-km elevated Mundka-Bahadurgarh Metro Corridor through remote control from his office in New Delhi on Sunday. The project has already been delayed by more than two years. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Minister for Urban Affairs Hardeep Puri will be present in Bahadurgarh on the occasion. 

The Mundka-Bahadurgarh stretch will have seven stations—four in Delhi (Mundka Industrial Area, Ghevra, Tikri Kalan and Tikri border) and three in Bahadurgarh (Modern Industrial Estate, Bus Stand and City Park). It will be the third connectivity of Delhi Metro to Haryana after Gurugram and Faridabad.

 “A total of 20 metro trains will run on the section in the gap of around eight minutes between Mundka and City Park, Bahadurgarh. With the opening of this section the Delhi Metro Network will expand to 288 km with 208 metro stations,” said an official of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Meanwhile, Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda has blamed the BJP government for the delay in the metro project. “The project should have been completed over two years ago but the BJP government deliberately delayed it with an intention to get political mileage. The process of getting sanctions had already been completed during the previous Congress government,” he said.      

 He claimed Haryana and Delhi had to pay Rs 788 crore and Rs 152 crore, respectively, of Rs 2,000 crore estimated cost of the project but the Hooda government paid even the share of the Delhi Government to ensure the extension of the metro up to Bahadugarh.

 Meanwhile, Bahadurgarh MLA Naresh Kaushik refuted the charge and said the BJP government not only expedited the project but also resolved all issues that were left unresolved by the previous Congress government.

• It was scheduled to be completed by March, 2016.
