Ambala, July 26

The Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment would have a tertiary care cancer centre, said Dr Aditya Chaudhary, Director, Health Services (Construction).

“Its layout plan has been prepared. A team from Centre will visit the hospital on August 5 to finalise the plan,” he said.

Dr Chaudhary was here today to inspect Civil Hospital buildings under construction.

“Cancer patients go to the PGI for treatment. Soon, the facility of the tertiary care cancer centre will be available here,” he said.

On June 18, The Tribune had reported that there was a proposal to set up the centre at the Civil Hospital.

OPD block to miss deadline

The OPD block under construction is set to miss the August 31deadline set by Health Minister Anil Vij.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Vinod Gupta, who held a meeting with officials of the PWD and Public Health, said: “The officials concerned have informed that the OPD block would be constructed by the second week of September and it will start operating by September 15, but without the facilities of an air conditioner and a lift.”

The new fully air-conditioned hospital is divided into three blocks.

As for the other two blocks, the CMO said that because of shortage of funds, it will some more months to complte the construction. “The PWD’s electrical division has not received the funds for the central air conditioning chilling plant, gas-manifold system, genset, power substation and lift. Even after receiving funds, it will take about five months to get the work done.”

More than Rs 6.5 crore was required for the pending work, Dr Gupta said, adding “the Director, Health Services, has been apprised of the situation. He assured us of providing the funds”.
