Kurukshetra, January 2

Members of the Dalit community blocked traffic at Ambedkar chowk for over five hours to protest against desecration of his statue in Ladwa on Saturday.

Traffic was disturbed on the Ladwa-Yamunanagar and Ladwa-Karnal roads as the protestors formed a human chain and sat on the roads.

Protesters said the statue has been damaged and we will continue to protest till the guilty are arrested. A finger and spectacles of the Dalit icon have been damaged and the community will not tolerate such incidents.

The protestors also raised slogans against the government and Ladwa MLA Pawan Saini and burnt an effigy. Police was deployed to keep the situation under control.

Senior community members said, “A 21-member committee will meet Saini on Sunday to demand the instantiation of a new statue. If our demands were not fulfilled, we will block the national highway.” — TNS
