The district administration has issued termination notices to 36 anganwari workers on account of poor performance in improving the sex ratio during the first quarter of the current year.

Earlier, 7 Auxiliary Nursing Midwives (ANMs) were terminated and notices issued to 29 health officials, including 2 Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) posted at Nangal Choudhary and Mahendragarh towns and the deputy civil surgeon (PNDT), for the same reason a week ago.

Sources said the action was taken after a survey conducted by Sanjeev Verma, Deputy Commissioner, revealed that no girl child was born against significant number of boys in at least nine villages of the district.

Similarly, 17 villages had a gender ratio of less than 300 girls against 1,000 boys during the first three months of this year.

“We have vowed to wipe out the disrepute of being the district with the lowest sex ratio. The action has been taken against the health officials to improve gender ratio in Mahendragarh,” said Verma.

He said the administration will focus on villages with the poorest sex ratio, adding every effort was being made to plug the loopholes leading to dismal performance.

“There is no need of anganwari workers who cannot keep a tab on pregnant women in their respective area. Efficient anganwari workers will be appointed in the villages having dismal gender ratio,” said Verma.
