Additional Sessions Judge RK Jain today rejected the bail application of Bajrang Dal leader Kapil Vats and another accused Anil Kumar in the case of assault on a youth at a mosque here on July 11.
The police had arrested the duo after a group of people led by Bajrang Dal district convener reached the mosque and slapped and hackled a Muslim youth.
The accused had approached the district court after their plea was rejected in a lower court.
The prosecution stated that there could be disturbance to peace in the city if the accused came out of jail. Besides, the police had also identified five more accused in the case and efforts were being made to arrest them, stated the prosecution.
The police had arrested Vats from Panchkula on July 16. He was later sent in judicial custody. He was facing charges of assault, rioting, outraging religious feelings etc.
A video footage of the incident went viral which also helped the police in establishing the identities of the accused.
