While opposition leaders in Haryana have been demanding the resignation of state BJP president Subhash Barala over his son Vikas Barala and his friend stalking IAS officer VS Kundu’s daughter Varnika, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said it won’t serve any purpose.

“Barala’s resignation is inconsequential. It won’t serve any purpose as the BJP will be in power even if he quits his post,” Hooda said while addressing mediapersons here today.

He said the Union Home Ministry, which controls the Chandigarh (UT) Police, should explain how and why sections included in the FIR against Barala’s son were changed. Justice to Varnika and her family should also be ensured, he added.

Hooda said the present regime believed in Charvak’s philosophy, which propagated the ideology of “consuming ghee by taking loans”. He added ever since the inception of Haryana in 1966, the state had taken loans to the tune of Rs 71,000 crore till the installation of the BJP government in 2014.

“The debt burden on the state has touched Rs 1.5 lakh crore during the present BJP regime, which means Haryana has taken more loans in less than three years than in the first 48 years since its inception,” he said.

Hooda criticised the Centre for allegedly writing off loans of big businessmen running into several lakhs of crores of rupees but when it came to waiving loans of farmers, it passed the buck to the state governments.
