The girl who had alleged that a senior Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) official had offered to get her National Eligibility Test (NET)/Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) exam cleared by use of unfair means has maintained that she was being pressured to withdraw her complaint.

“The MDU director who has been accused of having made the unlawful offer recently approached me. He also visited my family. I have been getting calls and feelers to withdraw the complaint or be prepared to face the consequences,” the girl claimed while talking to The Tribune last evening.

The girl conceded that she had made a pseudonymous complaint to the MDU authorities as she did not want to disclose her identity owing to security concerns.

“However, I am ready to come out in the open, provided the authorities ensure my safety and that of my family and take appropriate action against the said official,” she stated.

The girl had lodged a complaint with the university authorities and also submitted a CD containing the recording of her telephonic conversation with the said official.

As per the telephonic conversation recording, a copy of which is in possession of The Tribune, the person referred to as a director asks the girl to let him know her roll number and the NET/JRF examination centre and then tells her to carry a mobile phone to the centre.

He assures the girl that the answer key would be sent on her mobile phone during the examination. He also promises to ensure that a reasonable amount is charged from her for the “deal” and asks her to make the payment afterwards. The “official” claims that several aspirants had cleared their exams in this manner.

Maharshi Dayanand University Vice-Chancellor, Sudhir Rajpal, said the matter required a thorough investigation in view of its sensitivity and he would do the needful in this regard.

According to informed sources, the university administration has sought comments from the said official and initiated the process for verification of the CD to ascertain its genuineness.
