Union Minister of Steel Birender Singh said a scrap factory would be established in Haryana for disposal of old vehicles.

Interacting with mediapersons at Fatehabad on Tuesday, the minister said that the Motor Vehicle Act (Amendment) Bill was pending in Parliament. After passage of the Bill, more than 15-year-old vehicles would not be able to run on the road.

He said that the Union Steel Ministry would purchase 15-year-old vehicles by paying 15 per cent more than the market rate. Presently, India is importing one million tonnes of scrap for its needs.

Describing the INLD-BSP alliance as a mismatch, he said that history witnessed the two parties striking an alliance earlier also, but it could not succeed and fell a victim to their respective egos. The alliance struck by the two parties now would also meet the same fate, he added.

Asked to comment on the resistance of some sarpanches to the e-panchayats system, he said initially problems were faced in understanding the system which was a big reform.
