Jats should not be included in the Centre’s list of Other Backward Classes (OBC) against the direction of the Supreme Court, said district BKU president Chuhar Singh Rawal today.

“Jats do not need reservation, as 70 per cent members of the community are landlords and the like percentage of Jats has government jobs,” he told the media.

If Jats were included in the OBC category against the SC order, it will damage the fate of communities already in the OBC list, Rawal said, adding that the Centre should reconsider its decision of filing a review petition.

On crop damage, the BKU chief said at least 30 per cent of wheat crop and vegetables had been damaged due to unseasonal rains a few weeks ago. “The damage now increased to 40 per cent following rain on Sunday and Monday.”

“A special girdawari has not been conducted in the district. When will the government compensate farmers when loss assessment exercise has not started?” he added.
