Residents and teachers of the Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) in Machroli village of the district are blaming each other for poor results in Class X exams declared by the Haryana Board of School Education. Only four of the 40 students passed the examination. While teachers blamed the school management for poor showing, the latter fixed the responsibility on parents of the wards.

A resident said his daughters failed because they were not taught properly.

Krishna Devi, sarpanch of the village, too, blamed the teachers for poor results. “The gram panchayat will demand good teachers for the school,” she said. A total of 393 students are enrolled in the school and 25 teachers are posted here.

On the contrary, Durga Devi, a teacher, said, “Parents do not monitor the performance of their wards.”

Davinder Singh, head teacher at the school, alleged the state government’s policies for poor performances. He blamed teachers’ transfer time and again, non-availability of textbooks from Classes I to VIII and no-detention policy, under which students can’t be failed up to Class VIII, among several others, as responsible for poor results.

However, Uday Pratap Singh, District Education Officer, said shortage of teaching staff led to poor showing. The number of teachers would be increased for better results next year, he said.
