A 22-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Sector 6 here on Monday. The deceased was a BTech final-year student at Bhagat Phool Singh University for Women in Khanpur.
Inspector Rajkumar, SHO, GRP, said the woman was identified as Samiksha. Her father Shankar Dayal, hailing from Budaun district in Uttar Pradesh, worked as engineer in the IOCL refinery, he said.
Pursuing BTech course in computer science, she skipped her practical examination on Monday, said the SHO. She jumped in front of the Sachkhand Express, he added.
The body of the deceased was kept in the mortuary of general hospital for postmortem examination, he further said. Her father, away to Budaun, had been informed and would reach here on Tuesday, he said.
The deceased left a suicide note, but her mother burnt it before the police reached the spot, he said. She said in her statement that Samiksha was tense because a prospective marriage proposal was turned down some days ago, he added.
