Gurugram, October 12

A suspended head constable of the Gurugram police and his three partners were arrested for allegedly running a casino-cum-bar in a house in the posh South City area here in early hours today.

Paramjit Ahlawat is among the five suspended Gurugram policemen facing murder charge for killing gangster Sandeep Gadoli in an alleged fake encounter in Mumbai in February this year. The Mumbai police have declared Paramjit a proclaimed offender. His three arrested partners have been identified Vinay, Jitender and Kapil, manager of the casino-cum-bar.

A local court today sent Paramjit to two-day police remand while others were granted bail. The police also arrested over 30 patrons with Rs 22.44 lakh cash and seized a pistol and four cartridges, 48 beer bottles, a currency note counting machine, plastic money, a casino table, playing cards and three laptops. Four girl workers were also taken into custody.

A police team headed by ACP Anil Yadav was deployed near the house. After waiting for a few hours, the team entered the house and was shocked to find a casino being run there.

“We expected to catch people playing cards and drinks being served but were surprised to see world-class interiors and services. Around 40 patrons, a majority of them businessmen from Gurugram and Delhi, were playing cards and rollet machines while girls were serving them alcohol and managing currency notes. Seeing us, everyone, including Parmajit’s partners, tried to flee but were caught,” said a senior police officer. They have been booked under various sections of the Gambling Act, the Arms Act and the Excise Act.

Sources claim that the casino manager is a cricket bookie, who would frequent casinos in Goa and thus got his prospective clients there. A WhatsApp group was formed and the casino set rolling on October 8.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar has transferred ASI Jitender Singh and head constable Dharmendra Singh of the crime unit-II with immediate effect after their names caome under scanner in connection with the casino.
