The Special CBI court here today reserved its order on the plea of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's former driver Khatta Singh, who had sought permission to depose afresh in the murder cases of Ranjit Singh and journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, for September 25.
During the hearing, CBI counsel HPS Verma supported Khatta Singh's application. He said under the peculiar circumstances of the case, the CBI supports his plea to record his statement again. However, the CBI did not submit a written reply.
Meanwhile, defence counsels opposed Khatta Singh's plea stating that it was moved after five years from his earlier statement in 2012. Therefore, the court should not consider the plea and dismiss it, they added.
Special CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh reserved the order on Khatta Singh's plea for September 25. Meanwhile, the hearing in the murder case of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati was deferred to October 27.
Chhatrapati's son Anshul Chhatrapati also came to the Panchkula court today. Outside the court complex, he said Khatta Singh's statement would strengthen the case against Ram Rahim.
