CCTVs to guard Punjab, R’sthan borders in Hisar range

Five districts in the Hisar range that share borders with Punjab and Rajasthan will be under the constant watch of the police. The inter-state border is a safe passage for drug smugglers and miscreants after committing the crime.

The police have decided to install close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras along Punjab and Rajasthan borders in Hisar, Bhiwani, Sirsa, Fatehabad and Jind districts.

In all, 103 spots in the five districts have been identified where the CCTV cameras will be installed, the police said.

Anil Kumar Rao, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Hisar range, today said: “The high-quality cameras with night vision and HD quality will be bought so that camera grabs of persons and vehicles can be identified during investigation.”

The IGP said the cameras would be installed at educational institutes, banks, petrol pumps and automobile agencies located near the borders on the highway. The cameras will also be installed at the the inter-district borders of Hisar, Bhiwani, Sirsa, Fatehabad and Jind.

“Criminals cross the border after committing murders, loot, dacoity and kidnapping for ransom. The police aim to trace the accused and vehicles with the help of CCTV cameras,” the IGP said, adding “drug smuggling is rampant in these districts considered transit routes for smugglers to reach Punjab and Rajasthan”.
