The third party audit report on railway station cleanliness, released by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Wednesday, exposed the bad state of affairs at railway stations in the state. None of these could make it to the list of India’s cleanest stations in the overall category.

The Rewari station with 724 points got the 82nd place among 407 stations surveyed across the country. However, the Rewari station was the cleanest in the state. The Panipat station was the dirtiest railway station in the state and got 391st place with 449 points.

With the launch of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on October 2, 2014, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian Railways had launched ‘Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ to achieve the vision of ‘clean India’ by October 2, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Under this campaign, the authorities had conducted interviews of passengers at stations on various parameters of cleanliness and rating, besides reviewing cleanliness at 407 major railway stations (75 A1 category and 332 A category stations) of the Indian Railways.

The authorities had even included parameters such as cleanliness in parking, main entry area, main platform and waiting room. The Gurugram station with 714 points got the 102nd rank in the country. It stood second in the state, followed by Hisar. It managed the 173rd rank in the country with 665 points.

The Kalka railway station was the fourth cleanest station in the state. It got the 229th rank in the country with 633 points. The Karnal railway station, believed to have been constructed by the British, was 233rd. With 629 points, it was the fifth cleanest in Haryana.

Bhiwani with 607 points got the 275th place in the country. It was followed by Jagadhri at 284th, Rohtak 333, Ambala 350 and Ballabhgarh at 361. Sonepat secured the 378th rank in the country and Faridabad 385. Ambala was the only station in the A1 category in Haryana that secured the 73rd rank in the country.
