Karnal, November 6

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has finally given its nod to restart the civil hospital in the old building of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH), seven month after the CM’s announcement.

The process to revert doctors from the KCGMCH to the civil hospital would also be started soon. A proposal regarding renovation work at the old KCGMCH building has also been sent to the higher authorities for approval.

The civil hospital was taken over by the Medical Education Department in December, 2012, to run the KCGMCH. “The CMO has approved the proposal sent by the district administration to restart the civil hospital in the old building of the KCGMCH ,” said Aditya Dahiya, DC .

With the civil hospital resuming operations, the pressure on the KCGMCH would be reduced to a great extent. The issuance of medical certificates would also be streamlined, the DC added.

The PWD, B&R would renovate the building, he said.

Since Karnal is the only district that does not have its own district civil hospital, the CM announced on April 13 to restart it in the old building of the KCGMCH while inaugurating the OPD and hospital building of the KCGMCH.
